i'm SO not impressed

some jackal stole our snow shovel off. the. front. steps. me and my faith in humanity (see earlier post re: umbrella). like really. if you need a snow shovel that badly, clearly you have a house, and if you have a house, you have the means to BUY YOUR OWN FRIKKIN' SNOW SHOVEL! all i have to say is that it better have been some poor waif who needs to go around the neighbourhood shovelling peoples' walks for them to feed his poor emaciated grandma who is sitting at home immobile. or else. i have no patience for this. my dad apparently does, though. it was actually him who bought the shovel and i pointed out its absence to him and he said, "oh". and now it's me, ME, who will have to spend my hard earned (loaned) pennies on buying another shovel. the nerve.

you need what?

helen and i took a walk this evening, in the rain, to the corner store.
we needed some ice cream. yes, needed.

after choosing a four litre pail of chocolate swirl and also grabbing some milk, i headed to the cash counter... helen lagged behind and, on a whim, picked up a small container near the counter saying in a loud and perky voice:

'sometimes, you just need some nuts!'

QUEEN MAKES APPEARANCE AT SYMPHONY

Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, the queen was said to have been seen at the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra last night. When asked why she decided to fly all the way from her home in England to the small Saskatchewan city for just one night of music, she replied by saying that it was the expected performance of one bass player. It was our very own Elke that drew her Royal Highness from across the ocean. Alas, this journalist, not being present, can offer no concrete certainty of the perfection of the night, but can simply assume that with such an elite as her Royal Highness and with such delightful music the night could possibly have been nothing short of a success.

One Green and Not-So-Irish Night...

It was St. Patrick's Day, and Amelia, Matthew and Scotty were in pursuit of green beer. However, so it would seem, was the rest of the Saskatoon population. With every pub crowded, the three ended up at the LBS. There, too the Saskatoon dwellers were crowding in, everyone in pursuit of liquor by which they would celebrate the day of Ireland's patron saint. Beer in hand our three heroes then made a stop at the Sobeys, now in pursuit of green food colouring. Again, the Saskatoon population had beat them to it and there was not a bottle of green food colouring to be found. As Amelia shoveled the other various colours of colouring around, she wondered aloud "What colours mixed make green?" A kind woman, passing by reminded our beauteous heroine, "It is but blue and yellow." "Ah yes, I the artist, should know even that," said Amelia as she picked up the two colours recommended. Thus it was that Scotty, Matthew and dear Amelia left the grocery store with not one dye, but two. Home again at the abode of Amelia and her dear roommates, green beer was made for the three, and green water for Helen who joined them also. Amelia also had the brilliant idea to make the butter for the popcorn green as well. Thus St. Patrick's day was celebrated, although perhaps not accurately by Irish tradition!

rare moments

This morning, although not going as planned for Helen, Robin or myself, was in my mind, still quite nice. With Robin still sick, and the roads to icy for the proposed journey on which Helen and I were to go, we three instead spent a lazy morning in the living room.

I DO however hope and pray that Robin heals quickly!!!

poem of the day

robin felt like a grouch
as she sat on the couch
eating her curds & whey.
along came a collie
who was a little too jolly
so helen put him away.
