this, along with the last post, will probably lead one to believe that amy and i, left to our own devices, are incapable of taking care of ourselves...

our dear, dear robin dropped off some baking and food for us today because our cupboards and refrigerator are bare (other than tuna). just want to say a BIG THANK-YOU! it was a very sweet thing to do. i laughed pretty hard when i realized what she was coming over to bring us was food! she brought corn on the cob, banana bread, muffins, kraft dinner, and a couple of frozen chicken breasts! isn't that cute? i miss you robin!

side note: i just feel the need to let anyone who reads this know that we are just being stubborn and 'having fun' seeing what we can finish off out of the cupboards because we didn't want to put new money in the grocery fund until the 1st. we are certainly not starving or anything.

Happiness is a Cat That Kills Birds and Eats Them

This morning I looked out my window and there was a cat in the tree!! It was trying to climb up to Mr. Magpie, and mean Mr. Magpie kept hopping to higher and smaller branches, eventually the cat gave up and jumped out of the tree and ran away. Mr. Magpie then proceeded to fly up into the tree that reaches across our patio and sat there for like an hour making his horrible magpie sounds, and I truly wished I had a shotgun to shoot him down. Too bad the cat hadn't eaten up. Yup. That's my story today.

we must prepare for a party!!

the backyard is making me happy today. it's covered in pink flower petals that are falling off the tree. they are so pretty to watch flutter down when the wind gusts. and we can actually see the backyard thanks to matthew and scotty chopping down the tree that was planted right in the middle. yay! and amy scrounged up a rake from somewhere (haven't talked to her yet to find out about it) still need to mow somehow but we'll figure it out. stay tuned for invites to a backyard dance party...

The Cat Lady Strikes Again

Today while in the bathroom, I heard the click of high heals walking on pavement, and then this conversation from below:

Cat Lady, in Cat Lady voice: "OH! Oh, darling!"
Cat: "Meow"
Cat Lady, in Cat Lady voice: "No, one's gonna bother you here. It's okay!"
Cat: "Meeeooooow"
Cat Lady, in Cat Lady voice: "Oh, OH, Oh it's okay darling!"
Cat: “Meow”

It is not so much that it is odd to hear the Cat Lady conversing as such with her cats and the neighborhood populous of animals, on the contrary, her enthusiastic pet voice has come to be expected. What was however odd was why she was on THAT side of the house talking in her Cat Lady voice to her cats, is no place free of the Cat Lady anymore!? Or at least of her Cat Lady voice? She seems to be quite a nice women when talking to humans, but it is this voice that continues to strike me as odd, as well as this new location, on the opposite side of our house from hers, in which she stops to converse with the cats!

a new one

you outsiders may not realize that we have a new roommate around here: mr. dragon. he talks to all of us, probably most often to helen. he books her dr. appointments, reminds her to call people, tells her there's groceries to eat. he's quiet, doesn't eat much, is a friend to all of us. good ol' mr. dragon.

prize up for grabs

i brought back the prize toaster. whoever won it most recently can at last enjoy its one-sided goodness. it was a good friend to me in my time of need, bringing me hot crispy english muffins and warm bagels... treat it well, friends ~ i think it's feelings may have been hurt by my moving on.
