photo shoot

all 6 of the roommates were in the same room together this evening. can't remember when that happened last. what brought us together was dear amy and her photography assignment. who knew a little photo shoot would turn to chaos and giggling and biting. oh ben, what would we do without you? i must say it was enjoyable and the pics should be entertaining.

more adventures with ben the dog

i was enjoying a nice afternoon on the back patio the other afternoon when elke left and walked away down the back path and into the alley. ben watched sadly from behind the screen door for a few minutes and then began to paw at the door. i let him out thinking maybe he would enjoy a frolic in the sun, and for a few minutes he was content to race up and down the path searching for a desperate last trace of his beloved elke. then, all of a sudden, ben discovered the lack of fence along the one side of the yard, and raced towards the front yard. shocked into action i raced inside to find my shoes and then back out the door in hot pursuit of troublesome ben. he was waiting for me on the front yard, on seeing me, he eagerly dashed off, stopping every now and then to turn and make sure i was following....so i was chasing him down the street yelling for him to come back, feeling vaguely annoyed, ben however seemed to think the whole think was a fun game. luckily for me he got sidetracked from his game when he spotted a group of young children to leap on......and luckily for ben, the kids seemed to enjoy his eager attention. as soon as i caught him by the collar and began to lead him home he turned quite docile....guess he just needed to take a bit of run.
moral of the story: we NEED a fence!!

ben the dog

helen and i had quite the adventure this morning. i came downstairs at 8:30 to find the front door wide open and my first thought was 'THE DOG!' and i panicked. i woke up helen - who was sleeping peacefully - because i didn't know what to do (sorry helen - i've never had a *real* pet before; fish can't run away!)... so we freaked out together and pondered what to do.

ben is an eight month old collie who has not been in the city for long, so he's quite excitable, according to helen, who went along on a walk with him last night. this fact only increased our panic. we decided to drive around the neighbourhood and look for him, because we figured he couldn't have gotten that far in 15 minutes. sure, he's huge and probably fast, but he would most likely want to stop & check everything out.

lucky for us, ben is massive and wasn't too hard to spot. we had driven no further than a block and a half when we saw him checking out some construction workers, so i slammed on my brakes and helen tried to coax him into the car. not an easy task, since he doesn't really know us yet; i'm calling to him from the car and helen is chasing him around outside. i'm chuckling now just thinking of it.

finally he gets in, and let me tell you, this dog is HUGE. and i have a TINY car. that was an adventure in itself. the happy ending is that ben is home now, safe and sound, and in all the excitement i forgot to make myself a chai this morning and now my whole day is thrown off. ha.

the moral of the story is ALWAYS make sure the door is latched properly when you leave the house and don't try and tote around big dogs in small cars.

of birthdays and pizza

okay, so the following pictures were taken a while ago, but it was time for an update. it sucks being without internet. stupid sasktel and their screwy hook-ups (or lack there-of).

helen had a birthday recently (happy happy, helen!) and i found these hats while packing (before we moved) so we wore them around the house for a bit. yes, we are tards. life would be boring if we weren't.

and then i made a fabulous pizza. so good, in fact, that helen said it would go down as one of the best pizzas she'd ever eaten and that we needed to take a picture of it. looks good, doesn't it? (click on pic for a closer look.) i admit, though, that the crust was made by my mom. she rocks.
